Kedarkantha Winter Trek:
Kedarkantha peak, situated in the mountains of the Tons river valley is a beautiful ridge peak; easily accessible anytime of the year. In the winter, it snows in this valley and hence views from the summit are very rewarding. The trek goes through the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park and gives you ample time to soak in the flora and fauna of this protected area. The summit lies at an altitude of 12,500 feet and reaching the top is very satisfying as you are rewarded with views of peaks like the Swargarohini, Banderpoonch and Black Peak.

Day 1: 27th December 2017
Dehradun to Sankri – Total drive of 200 Kms (7-8 hours)
We start early from Dehradun and reach Sankri by evening. We spend the night in Alpine tents / Hotels / Guesthouses in Sankri which is a small village. The final 22kms are through the Govind National Park and is a very beautiful but bumpy ride. We spend the evening acclimatizing and exploring the quaint village.
Day 2: 28th December 2017
Sankri to Juda Ka Talab – Total trek of 4 Kms (3-4 hours)
Post breakfast we start our trek towards the frozen lake of Juda Ka Talab. The path goes through Saud village and is a gentle climb. A lot of local village women will be seen on the way carrying wood and dried leaves for their cattle. The campsite is located near the Juda Lake and is a gorgeous camping site surrounded by tall trees and mountain slopes; without any wind or views. We reach by afternoon and stay in camps.
Day 3: 29th December 2017
Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Meadows – Total trek of 6 Kms (4-5 hours)
We start post breakfast and trek through the pine and oak trees to reach the open field below the summit. This camping site has excellent views and is the highlight of the trek. There are green pastures nearby and the views towards Himachal are unending. We camp here for the night.
Day 4: 30th December 2017
Kedarkantha Meadows to Summit and back to Meadows – Total trek of 8 Kms (7-8 hours)
It’s a long day today. We start early post breakfast and trek to reach the top of the ridge by noon. It’s a climb of over 2-3 hours but the views are very rewarding. After spending some time on the summit we head back to our campsite, have lunch and relax at the campsite.
Day 5: 31st December 2017
Kedarkantha Meadows to Sankri – Total trek of 4 Kms (3-4 hours). Drive back to Dehradun and reach by late evening.
Trek down from Kedarkantha Base to Sankri via Hargaon on well-marked trail by stones. Trek down through thick forest of Pine and Maple trees and at some places you will have open views of beautiful Har Ki Dun valley. Drive back to Dehradun to catch your train to Delhi with kaleidoscopic memories of the Kedarkantha Trek. Our trek ends here.
