Description

One of the most beautiful high altitude Himalayan Lakes, Chandra Tal- the Moon lake is the award of this trek. The dimensions of the lake never fail to impress – it is over 1Km long and up to 500m wide in places – and is distinguished by its half moon shape. On the trek there are spectacular views of the main Himalayan ranges while following the trails of the Gaddi shepherds to their summer grazing pastures. After Spiti, the trail moves deep under the Chandra Bhaga ranges and opens at Baralacha La. Baralacha La is the origin of Bhaga River, and is the last mountain pass of Himachal towards Ladakh. It is the gateway to enter Zanskar by trekking and used to be the stoppage of royal weddings when Buddhism was flourishing in Tibet, Ladakh & Spiti.
